Please Note

If you are wanting to visit our kiosk, please make note of this information: it is located at 2675 Old Innes Rd, in Gloucester (Blackburn Hamlet, just after the Bearbrook intersection). This is one is those unfortunate instances where if you are relying on Mapquest to guide you, you will be lead astray. Their map is incorrect (trust me, I'll be e-mailing them about that!) If you are at the corner of Bantree and Old Innes (which is where the map currently directs you), between St. Laurent Blvd and the 417 Overpass, you will not find us! In case you get lost, please feel free to call us at (613) 845-0017 and we will do our best to guide you back to the right spot!

Also, we've had a couple of very keen visitors to the kiosk hoping to find some Badger sunscreen. Please bear with us, it's on its way :) It should be in by the end of the week. I will post an update as soon as it is. The web page should be posted fairly soon as well.

If you're wanting to visit the kiosk for a specific item and want to make sure we have it in stock, please feel free to call ahead, we always love hearing from you.

What's New

In the next weeks, we will be bringing in three (yes three!) new product lines, all three by popular demand. You talk, we listen ;)

Many of you have asked us about sunscreen. Well, I am happy to say that we will be carrying three new products by Badger: the SPF 15 & 30 for face and body, and an SPF 15 lipbalm. These SPF formulas are water resistant for up to 40 minutes, safe for children of all ages, thoroughly moisturize while they protect and are reminiscent of a holiday luau (OK, so I stole this blurb from the Badger web site, I was so enthralled by the visuals). These are natural, physical barrier sunscreens.

We are also bringing body care products by Green Beaver, an amazing Canadian company. The majority (>95%) of the ingredients used for their products (shampoos, conditioners, body washes and lotions) are organically grown or ecologically wild crafted right here in Canada, and their products are safe for the whole family including babies, are 100% natural, biodegradable, vegan, gluten and (as if that wasn't enough!), do not contain paraben or hydantoin preservatives, sulfate detergents, artificial aromas, fragrances or dyes, phthalates, quaternium, EDTA, propylene glycol or petrolatum. They've been tried and tested by yours truly, and we hope you will like them as much as we do!

And last but not least, we are bringing in some soaps from The Soap Works, yet another Canadian company (did I ever mention how much I loooove Canadian products?!). These are reasonably-priced, minimally packaged, beautiful soaps made with a variety of pure ingredients, and which do not contain any harsh chemicals, fragrances, dyes, SLS or anything else that doesn't belong in soap!

While these lines aren't yet listed on our site, they will be going up in the next few weeks. Please bear with our very efficient, yet tiny, one-man web team (Sam you're the best!) while we try and catch up with the demand!

Feel free to contact us if you want more information or want to pre-order.

Earth Day, David Suzuki and ecomama.ca

We brainstormed ways to mark Earth Day (tomorrow!) and other than marking the occasion with our family in our local community, we've decided to donate 10% of our net profit for sales on April 22 (tomorrow!) to the David Suzuki Foundation. We love the Foundation because it is a Canadian organization that uses science and education to promote solutions that conserve nature and help achieve sustainability within a generation. So, tomorrow will be a great time to make some green purchases and help the environment. Later this week we will be posting our official donation amount - stay tuned!

More on the Eco-Stewardship fair

The Ottawa Eco-Fair on Saturday was a rip roaring success. Attendance was high and many of you from Ottawa and surrounding areas came out to see us. It was nice meeting you :).

My good friend Dava who spent part of the afternoon with me got to schmooze with John Baird (!) our Minister of the Environment - although, they talked about baby bottles rather than politics. Bless you Minister Baird for keeping a straight face while we extolled the virtues of Born Free baby bottles for breastfed babies!

We ran out of Klean Kanteens early during the day (note to self for next time!) and almost ran out of Born Free bottles too! Those of you who've pre-ordered or want to place an order, rest easy, we have shipments of both coming in today and later this week. You will not be without your BPA-free accessories for long!

A Little Buzz

Even though things have been quiet on this blog lately, there's been some buzzing going on behind the scenes.

Firstly, thank you Ecochik for featuring us in your recent blog post.

Second, we've been busy getting ready for the Ecofair on Saturday. We'll have some of our most popular items with us for you to check out and purchase (think BornFree, gdiapers, ImagiPlay, Lunapads and more) and we will be introducing the latest addition to our lineup: the RiNGLEY. It is a natural teether that combines two efficient teething tools: natural Canadian Maple and 100% organic cotton terry cloth. These materials provide two very different textures which help children to satisfy their teething needs. The best part - they are made right here in Canada!

We're really excited about adding the RiNGLEY to our lineup. We loooove it, and think you will too! For first dibs on your very own RiNGLEY, come and see us on Saturday. They will be up on our web site in the next week or so.

And finally, we've been busy responding to your calls about Klean Kanteens and Born Free. There are rumours buzzing around which would have Health Canada issuing a ban on BPAs imminently. In the last days many larger retailers have been voluntarily removing their plastic goods from their shelves. All of that has resulted in increased interest in alternatives such as Klean Kanteens and Born Free. We're here to answer all of our questions. And, we're well stocked (for now!) with Born Free bottles and expecting a shipment of Klean Kanteens early next week.

Ottawa Eco Fair

We are proud to sponsor the 5th Annual Ottawa Eco Fair, on Saturday, April 19th, 2008 at the RA Centre, 2451 Riverside Drive, from 10am to 4pm.

The Eco Fair is an excellent green event, featuring great new eco-products and services. It is also a neat way to spend a Saturday afternoon with your family, making new discoveries on how to save the planet and improve your health.

Many exhibitors will be on hand (yours truly being one of them!), displaying products and services related to environmental health, beauty and fashion, local food, ecotourism, sustainable home and garden products, nature, green transportation and sustainable energy. There will also be food demonstrations, children’s activities and a “100 Mile” local food luncheon, as well as an informative seminar series.

We will have a selection of our products with us that day for you to purchase or just find out more about if you're curious!

Come on over and see us!
